I have an exhausted (close to 400K) 91 2.9 a4ld 4x4 ranger that I want to refresh. I have a 289 from a 67 Mustang that I could throw in it? But there are so many donor vehicles available would I be better off finding another driveline that would "fit" in my old Ranger? I don't really think the 289 is the best choice for a farm/work truck? What would you Ranger fellers do? I see a lot of 8cyl exploders in the yards. Would a donor explorer with a 5.0 5r55e fit in the old girl?

Just my 2 cents, a older 289 like your talking about would be better for a different project, I think a better donor could be more easily found in the yard. Check that explorer 5.0 - it sounds like a much better fit!

Sort of what I was thinking too? I have been keeping my eyes open for a good donor candidate. Gonna do the interior upgrades too. I'd like to find 2 good interiors, one for my lil gold 99 ranger. It's a standard cab, and is small for me, but some interior upgrades would be nice. The stock seats are butt killers!
