2 days ago I bought a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 4x4. It started to buck . I think it' just the air filter took it to AutoZone and the ran a test. The code P0172 came up. What exactly does that mean? Is it an expensive fix? Not that it mattets, I love the truck .

I am going only on what I've been told. But it sounds as if it is just an orientation thing. First, you have to let the thing know that your the boss. But at the same time, treat it to an apple or some special oats. (They like both and it may win points for you as an ally instead of just someone who jumps in the saddle....... Wait, scratch that, you have a truck not a horse. P0172 identifies as "SYSTEM TOO RICH (RIGHT CYLINDER BANK)" Now I have absolutely no idea what all that techno-speak means but if you intend to keep the hors....uh truck, I'd certainly check the easy fixes - air filter, fuel filter etc. Sorry Im no more help than this but maybe it gets you started. Keep us posted.
"System too rich" refers to fuel. You either have a (or several) leaky injectors or a clogged air filter.....or both. Try a new air filter and see if that doesn't cure it.....you may have to have a garage or dealership clear the code from the computer as well. ...still bucking? Check for codes again. If the same one comes back up, you likely have bad injectors. Dean
It was the MAF sensor dirty air filter and the guy that had it before me put the air hose on the heater and the heater hose on the air.
I knew the air filter was bad, but didnt think it would have anything to do with the truck bucking.Im just happy it wasn't anything major.
I did mean to say thank you on my previous post. . So thank you. My truck is running a million times better now. This is my first Ford and first manual transmission.
