My 97' ranger has 22,5,000, miles on it. It runs and drives nice, I have been mechanic for 50 years and don't hear anything except a bad wheel bearing. Should I be concerned about the engine? I also have intentional tremors, so it makes everything I do difficult, being 73, I'm not what I used to be. Any Ideas?

I had a 96 4 cyl. It had well over 200,000 when I sold it. Never burned oil. Change to high mileage oil and run it. Those engines are terrific. PS Sold it 2 years ago and I still see it around town.
My '98 has the 2.5L 4-cyl (stroked Pinto engine with bigger valves and ported heads). It's pushing 185K and it runs great. I can push 3rd gear to near 70 mph if I want (but don't do it unless absolutely necessary). Still gets about 25-26 mpg and starts every time. Clutch feels like crap, but that's a stupid throw out design (everyone has the same complaint with that). Doesn't leak any oil, nor does it burn any. I still run 5W-20 in the winter and 5W-30 in the summer. The NAPA filter for this one is a 1516. ...and to answer your question, no. If it runs fine and doesn't burn anything, don't worry about it. A lot of the little engines made these days are capable of some pretty high mileage numbers, with normal maintenance. Dean
I actually had a 72 Pinto with 2 liter engine. flow through design. carb on one side exhaust on the other. I raced it at the drag strip F experimental. Headers 2 bbl carbs. The clutch was the week sister but the engine ran for ever. Never did go bad. Raced it & drove it everyday. Great Engine.
