I have another idea aobut the Classified Section !

I was thinking of posting another ad and thought of the talk that goes on in the Classified’s that does nothing except hurts the sale.
I decided I wouldn’t post up on this or any Ranger Site because of it but then I thought I would attempt to change this Forum to something that does not allow any comments, every ad will be locked as soon as it is posted, well maybe the OP can edit !

Here’s my thoughts: What if… the Classified Section is turned in to something like a Newspaper Ad Section or Craig’s List where we can post up an ad, For Sale, Wanted, Just Checking… whatever, and no other posting will be allowed.
An e-mail addi or a cell/land-line number will be needed for contact but that is all.
If a person wants more info or just to talk about it or to buy it then the contact is outside of the forum, no additional comments means no bad attitudes, no comments good or bad, the ad stands on its own.

If for some reason there is a problem with a part, then the member who knows should contact the admin and tell them, let the admin fix it.

    What say you administration ?

Does anyone like this idea of no comments in the Classified Forum ?
Just the OP and nothing else ?

Scrambler, I missed your first post on this...I think it's a great idea.
Unless someone wants to buy my used crap..The responses in my for sale thread are not wanted or needed. If you feel the need to warn people about the downfall of civilization from buying my Jet chip, then start a new thread on the subject. (sarcastic humor intended)

I deleted the following from another thread..
I responded to a post in another forum, but I felt it should be said here also..

I agree with you Scrambler....I recently have had problems with a classified...I will throw my stuff in the trash before I put a classified ad in any Ranger forum again....And I assure you that I WILL share my ideas less..Critcizing comments do not happen in all forums. I belong to several laptop forums where juvenile comments are not tolerated at all. If you are not responding because of a personal interest in buying the item, your post is deleted and the poster is warned. It's up to the buyer to research an item before purchase. Google is your friend. Third party comments are not needed.
When I buy laptop parts from forum classifieds we always go PM for details. The ad thread is left alone.
The comments happen because everyone is anonymous on the web..Most of the people who make negative comments would NEVER have the courage to say a word in person...
I feel if the unneeded negative comments were eliminated, the forums would ATTRACT more members and postings. Who wants to speak up knowing that they are going to be attacked...I don't..I was repairing vehicles and building hot rods long before the internet. I will manage just fine without getting attacked in my classified ads. I have 15 years worth of Ford factory service manuals and my own common sense and imagination.

And just for everyone's information since the situation on my classified..I am VERY hesitant to post any response to any thread or anything in my build thread. Lack of respect drives people away..I am sure I am not alone in feeling like this. Less members, less posts and the forum dies.......

good idea scrambler, unwanter banter should not be allowed, and i agree with you shawn, i don't want to see this forum die... i have sent a very stern warning to the individual in question, and he has one chance, if he does it again, he will have a perma vacation

    bad idea.

posts in for sale threads, weather the person posting intends to buy or not is good. it gets your ad bumped and seen.

and it can be used to warn other members that a part is no good, so they dont buy it and end up screwed out of their hard earned money

And I understand where you are coming from, I work hard for my money too, and have been screwed more then once, but what you have done is more then just warn people, it is borderline harassment, and you are breeding a scab on the end of your nose here. If you don't have anything to add to. Classified ad, then don't post anything

I hope the new rules help....sadly major damage has already been done to me.
This is over a $25.00 part that I would have given away to the first person to ask for it.
I will not argue about the value of my chip. Calling me a scammer is over the top.
Especially coming from someone who has probably never owned one of the chips.

Arguing with 06fordfx4 will be pointless. I am old enough to know better.

As I have said before, if you have a problem with the item for sale contact the Admin/Mod, let them deal with it. If the item turns out to be a good part then the Member may lose the sale because of you, is that fare to all members or maybe you should buy the part if you F-up the sale ?

I understand what you are saying but you can’t undermine or make comments that are detrimental to a member, it is that easy !

x2… harmful statements, if incorrect, are worse than someone trying to be helpful.

There is another way, again, make the Classified Ads one entry and for the OP only, then if a member other than the OP has a problem, they can start another thread about what to look for in a good part of the same type or what to watch out for when buying a part similar to the part for sale.
That way no one directly get hurt, no one loses, all members are happy.

More good points scrambler, I am always around if I don't post much, I'm not the kind of person that likes to throw his weight around, but when I get multiple complaints with the same members, then I have to do something about it, and they have already been warned a couple of times now

I don't think vBulletin allows that sort of code to be enabled/used.

In regards to "demeaning" and "rude" classified ad posts, I believe those whom make those dig their own grave...and they do enough on their own to present an image by the thread/post readers. It's one thing to correct a seller not knowing what he has, it's a whole other one to troll and ruin a sellers ad by being just rude.

BUT, I believe allowing comments in for sale ads is just fine. As noted above, some sellers don't know what they have. This can be a score for the buyer or a score by the seller. But in addition, clarification or information needed about an item by someone whom may be interested is more than warranted. Especially if it's a multi-item ad. A lot depends on how the communication is started....post in the ad or a direct PM. But if done in the ad, it's visible to all whom look, which may help sell the item or eliminate a potential buyer. Also, if someone is selling an item at an astronomical price, I think it's the seller's fault for not researching the market/going rate and it should be brought up.

An example: SCT Xcal2. It's locked. And new tunes need to be purchased. $380 for brand new ready to go and the seller is wanting $300. It costs $200 for SCT to unlock it PLUS $100-115 for tunes and a VIN change from a tuner. This now brings the item cost to $600. OF COURSE if the seller doesn't know these complications, he should be informed of such. Extreme example, but an example.

I dislike the idea of a forum classifieds being like Craigslist. Feels too professional and unpersonal. /endnovel
