5.0 swap finished

    ok as most of you know this is old news if you follow me on the other fourms but as i forgit about this forum and trying to rember to come check it out every now and then.. any way on to the progress

    last winter i picked up a 88 ranger 2wd manual every thing with the 2.0 carbed motor. for 200.00 bucks.
    Sense before i found a truck i had been gathering parts for the swap. About a month ago i have the motor back from machine shop and put together. also have all my parts in. so now its just a matter of takeing the old one out and stuffing the 5.0 in.. ill up date this as more i make more progress.

    when i first got her little ruff but that can be fixed

    the old radio didnt work and was ducked taped in the dash.. so tour all of that out and wired in a pioneer head unit i had laying around

    the old seats were shot. had tears in em and smelt like something died on em.

    installed some black carpet i had laying around for the time being im going to order some molded carpet later down the rd. sense i had my old 00 ranger seats siting around i decided to mod the tracks and make em bolt in the 88 turned out nice i thank lot better than em other seats.

    done some body work and got the truck in primer.. thank god its not white any more..

    geting the 5.0 out of moms old 84 ltd crown vic

    5.0 out ready to be took apart

    block ready to go to machine shop.. took 3 months to get it back lol

    while i was waiting for the block to get done. i painted all the pullys and painted the alt.. then made a lamp out of the old cam shaft and smog pump well used the pully off of it

    got block back ready to be put together

    cam, crank, pistons and rods installed
    [​IMG]
    oil pan and oil pump and timeing chain and timeing cover installed
    [​IMG]
    heads installed and waterpump installed ready for paint

    intake, valve covers,headers , and carb is just siting their.. motor ready to be installed

    picked up a rad and a efan and a explorer powersteering box.. that manual steering has got to go.
    well got a lot of work done this weekend.. ended up geting the old 2.0 out and geting the 5.0 down into its new home and boy they arnt kidding about clearance problems this is one long motor. gotta tuck the rad under the core support but its where its going to set i let the drive shaft figure out where the motor is going to sit and went from their

    in now to wire it and make a trans mount
    she runs.. still got a bug with the starter squeeking, and air in the cooling system and waiting on that throttle cable bracket to get here..

    truck was finished and started for the 1st time on 5/30/2011..

    Haha I love the cam lamp! Yeah I didn't notice if you did this already but that year looks really cool if you debadge the entire thing. And I think your making the right choice with the flat black.

    theres around 1,500 in the engine.. another 400 to install it and get all the nick naks like oil and stuff i added like power steering a 4.0 rad. fixing the heater box makeing a trans mount and ect.. and thats a rough geuss i have all the recipts from every thing for this but i didnt add em up i didnt even wanna know what this costed me lol..

    yeah and its fun when you smoke things and the driver of the car you just smoked has that puzzed look like wow i just got beat by a ranger..

    8/29/2013 update
    doing a all at once update sense its been a wile sense ive done one. a lot of changes has happened to the truck still a lot of work left to do but she has come a long way this year..

    finally got around to takeing those pos glass pack muffers off and installing a do it your self exhaust kit and some flow super 10 single chamber mufflers. she sounds amazing you can hear that cam now.

    then redneckstone came up for a visit and brought me a present with him a sliding rear window for the truck.. and again a big thanks goes to zach thanks buddy.

    then came the process of painting this truck is was starting to look bad and wanted to get it done this year before winter sense i dont have a paint booth and need warm weather. so off parts came flying lol

    then came sanding. i hate sanding with a passon but it has to be done lol

    then ordered some primer from summit and i was pretty inpressed with the stuff great quality.

    then more sanding wet sanding that is this time.

    now for the color free paint too cant beat that left over from the batmobile in the garage lol.. i went with hot rod satin black. wanted that old school hot rod look with a touch of gloss..

    did the door jams 1st then a few days later i sprayed the truck

    and finished product. and i must say shes one ***y looking ranger now lol. ordered a new front bumber sense the old one was beat up pretty bad. still waiting on it.
