Vacuum Leak Prone Areas

I evidently have a vacuum leak that keeps turning on the CEL. Scan keeps showing P1000-MAF problem. I cleaned the MAF sensor, and eventually replaced it with another sensor. Is/are there any leak-prone area(s) on a 4.0 that I might look for? Truck is a 2002 4X4 extended cab with 82K miles. Truck seems to run well, and I get around 15 MPG combined but that persistent Check Engine Light is bugging me!

I am pretty sure your upper intake hose is cracked, it happened to me. As you face the engine look to the left of the throttle body, there is a large coolant hose. Lift up the coolant hose and underneath is a rubber elbow to the intake. Replace that with a rubber hose you can get at hardware stores. The factory hoses tend to crack on that 90 degree elbow and it is very common

Thanks for the information CVAR and HOOLIGAN! I will give that hose a look and see if it's cracked. Regards......BAMeyer

Found Vacuum Leak

I looked right where you mentioned and---shur' nuff'---there was a 90 degree hose and it had a hole in it. I was able to find a part at Advance Auto Parts that I modified for a pretty darn good replacement. It was called a bypass hose (Probably a water pump bypass) and is a Dayco part that carried an Advance P/N of 5191343. One end was fine but I had to cut about 1 or 11/4 inches off the other end. 5/8" I.D. heater hose a lot longer would have worked as well, but I opted to make it more like what was on it from the factory. Thanks again!

Excellent news man. When I first got my truck I was told it needed a whole new intake manifold gasket. As it turns out, it was just that hose!

Can you possibly post a pic of the elbow you are referring to please I don’t see one where you are talking about
