What are the most possible motor swaps for 99?

I have just inherited a 95 Lincoln Town Car. Stop laughing! Anyhow, it has the 4.6 modular V8. This thing has 49,000 on it and you can barely hear it run. The car has some big power. I started thinking how I wished it was in my 99. Can it be done? I mean without some crazy modifications. I don't have the skill or talent to do it myself so I would have to pay a local garage, but should I even ask them? I have the 4.0 now and the 4.6 is just a crazy different engine power wise. Would love the swap! Any advice would be great. Thanks!

It can be done as amatter of fact the trucks guys are working on one but its a lot of modding to do it I'd just got with the 5.0.

yea the 5.0 would be a lot better route...the 4.6 is really wide at the heads

    Demon I take no prisoners!

the 4.6 can deff be done. but it takes a whole lot more modification to make it fit in there and work well in the small space. 90% of ranger owners do the 5.0 swap. simple easy and it fits like a glove.

if youve got the fab skills, and have another car to drive daily, i say shove that 4.6 in there. will take some time, and money, but you will end up with something not a lot of people have. which to me will add so much more value to it.

that being said, me personally, id go 5.0 lol

The 5.0 sounds great. Maybe I can trade the whole Lincoln to someone who has a nice 5.0 and can even do the swap for me....like a used car place that works on their own stuff.

What model year do I want? What vehicle do I want the 5.0 out of for best results?
Also, do I want the matching power train or will my Ranger parts work?

try and find an explorer with the 5.0
for a 99 ranger, you would want to find a 99-01 explorer.

same set up in terms of fuel system, PATS, and ABS/VSS

would be pretty much plug and play in terms of a swap.

Perfect. Thanks. I bet everyone does the 5.0 swap. The rangers never came with the 5.0 did they? The 31sp. 8.8 and the 5.0 would have made for big sales as a packaged upgrade. What the hell was Ford thinking not offering that?

I think ford offered it back in the 80 as an option for your ranger but after the late 80's they dropped it as an option IIRC.

No ranger ever came factory with the 5.0

No, you are thinking of dual tanks.

So how many of you have done the 5.0 swap? Doing one on my 96. Figured I’d need a 95-96 Explorer for it to be easy but will other years work?

I did a swap on an'88 4x but nothing on the newer designs but other than special headers most 5.0's are a bolt in.
L&L Products makes some great Conversion Kit but for the earlier Ranger, but I am sure there are a lot of info out there in other Ranger Forums.
