my first vehicle is my 06 ranger fx4 level II lol

    best of the rangers :p

but i wouldnt call it a "nice" first vehicle.

i dont have a problem with people getting brand new vehicles as their first vehicle, as long as they pay for it. cant stand spoiled kids that get that kinda stuff bought for them

My first car was a '92 Grand Prix. Bought it myself for $500, and fixed it up. Drove it for a few months, sold it for $1300.

Haha, I hear ya. I bought my truck for $7400. It's book value is $9500. I've put on 5k miles since I've owned it in June.

OH, found out more about that F350. It's entire steering rack is welded together, it's got semi mud flaps that touch the ground... the suspension is all springs. It's so poorly put together, it looks as if it would hit a speed bump, it'd fall apart.

Have you checked with Custom 4x4, check them out on the web, they have a great front bumper for Rangers at a reasonable cost.
They are working on a plate rear bumper too.

holy balls its cold around here, wind chills down to -25 tonight into the morning. the ranger isnt liking the cold... cranks over but was a bitch to get going. would take off like it would start but then wouldnt. had to keep doing it and work the gas til it started. is there anything that would cause this other than the cold??

I think its just the cold doing it. Make sure you use some gas treatment in such cold weather and try a battery tender or trickle charger for the battery

ok thanks. the battery i think is ok, it cranks pretty good for the temp, plus i cant hook it up to anything with my apt. set up. its wierd itl start at say 500 rpm and them jump to 2000rpm like it would with the cold.

If the RPM's are sporatic like that, you may have to replace the IAC. When it starts cold, it should be going to a high RPM from the start, but it could be sluggish due to the cold and the IAC may act up if it is starting to go out on you.

oh ok thanks for the advice ill have to check it later in the week. could be why it was only running around 200 rpm and chugging at first this morn?

The IAC could be doing that. Your RPM's shouldnt be that low. If I remember correctly, the IAC has a rubber valve inside it, the cold weather may be affecting the rubber on it, or it may just be going out on you. I know I killed two IAC's on my truck trying to clean them, I used a solvent and it just destroyed them lol.

Is it chugging when you try to drive?

oh haha. ive never messed with my iac ever so should i just try and clean it first?

no its perfectly fine when i drive, at stop lights and everything its normal. just today trying to get it started once it took off on its own it was chugging like that, i blipped the gas a few times then it ran at 2000rpm like normal.

I myself would not clean another one lol, I'd rather just get a new one. If that is all your truck is doing, starting and chuggin just at the beginning I would chalk it up to the cold and nothing else. With your temps by you, the aluminum parts that make the engine, the engine is pretty much an ice cube, so I would think it is normal. If it sits for long periods of time, just run out now and then and run it for about 15-20 mins
