I have a 2000 Ranger with the 3.0 and a 5 speed it has about 125,00 on it and I just bought it in September but only got to drive it for a week or so then got injured . Point being I will be doing some mods in the next couple of weeks and tuning up changing oil my question is it allright to go to full synthetic oil as long as I always use synthetic?

I used to use mc but my Walmart doesn't sell the 5w30 in 5 qt jugs and there always seems to be only 3 or 4 qts in singles.. so I usually go w castrol part synthetic..

it wont hurt to run full synthetic a few times and then switch back to conventional.... synthetic has more cleaning agents and lasts a little longer than conventional...

what you can do if your worried if the insides are clean (or as clean as you can get them), run about a qt of tranny fluid through your engine for 5mins. then drain it all and do the usual oil change. dont go longer then 5mins though. not good to run it. it has a lot of cleaning properties since trannys have to run clean. but if you drive it like this with tranny fluid in it, you will mess it up. 5mins wont hurt

Watch out though some synthetics make your engine tick. My brother inlaw did that to his dodge and put regular conv oil back in and quit ticking.

Under my hood it says use 5W30....not sure why an owners manual would say 5w20
