    I have a 1988 4x4 ranger w/2.9 v6

When i try to cold start it cranks and sometimes it fires and will start

Other times it fires and wont start, but if i hold pedal to floor it will start

other times it will not start at all

if i pump pedal or hold to floor it does not start

if it does start it runs good unless i let it idel and then it may idle or may stop running

after it has warmed up and has been shut off it may or may not restsart

there are a couple of lines one coming off a pressure switch at intake manafold and other coming off intake manafold leading to a sensor. this sensor makes a goofy noise after i stop trying to start engine.

any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated

Check your coil pack wires and plugs. Sounds like an ignition issue

I was having similar problems with my 87 2.9, turned out to be the ignition control module connected to the distributor. also just wrote a new post about a little hose coming off the fuel pressure regulator, connecting to the master cylinder, hose had a little crack in it and wouldnt let my truck start. almost as if out of gas. Good Luck
