Hey, I am looking to purchase a truck in September! I have been eyeing Rangers for some time and I have a question for all of you. I want something reliable that will last me a good long while as I finish off college and go into the real real world. I have about $15k to spend and would like to know what should I get Ranger wise? And what are some cool neat mods I could put on to help enhance my Ranger experience? Thank you and hello!!

Welcome to the site. I personally recommend an xlt model, with the 4.0 SOHC engine. You can get a real nice truck with less than what your budget is too. If you are looking for mods, check out members build threads, garages and the photography section of the forum.

Thanks! Like I said, you can get a good truck for less than your budget, use the rest of the money for mods, suspension lift etc

Yeah, after looking around a bit on what is available in my area. That seems to be the way to go. I would like something that is in great shape when I purchase it and wouldnt mind dropping maybe 5-6k on modding her up.

Personally, I'd be looking for a 95-97 ranger with a 4.0L OHV, low miles, and no rust. There are sooo much more aftermarket support for the TTB vs. the IFS, not to mention the mods are much cheaper.

Wow, sounds good!! Thank you very much! I will be looking. I still have a little under 2 months until I will be making a purchase but until then I have been doing as much research as possible. I want to make sure I make the right purchase. I have had it with my old 98 Bonneville! lol

Welcome! Do you plan on lifting it or dropping it? I love 98-00 rangers personally but 04+ are really nice too.

I would likely look into lifting it.

Well if you get a 98-00 or newer (as long as you change your front rotors) I have a 5.5 inch suspension lift for sale

Holy crap!!! You all are being very helpful and it is awesome. I will not be making any purchases for another month or so. For those offering anything I will keep those in kind and if I do purchase a ranger, I shall post it here and get started with the fun.

I got my 2004 4.0 4wd edge sport back in 08 with 50k for 14grand if I remember correctly. And its still running strong with 140k on her now. That was also from a dealer
