I've used Fram filters in my 1993 Ranger since I bought it in 1995. No issues at all.

Its kind of like the Bosch Spark Plug thing, Bosch Plugs are supposed to ruin your Ranger. I'll pull one of my 65,000 mile old plugs and they will still look new.

Remember the Toyota thing a while back??

Again, the issue with the fram is the paper end caps. This alone does not garuntee a ruined engine. Its just the risk. Why take the risk of an end cap failing, and the filter failing to filter the oil....?

I just did my oil this last wknd. And cut open the FRAM, looked good still. Then again I cut open my dads and it had collapsed. I put in a Mobil 1 filter with Mobil 1 full synthetic.
