    Hey!

Names Mky and I have a 97 Ford Ranger hoopdee. Last weekend I was coming out of the big dig, going up hill and the peddle was to the floor and it wouldn't go over 55 and then started going backwards and was doing 45, luckily the hill isnt too steep. Scared the crap out of me as people were flying around me and it was dark. Seems like when I am going down hill it will go to 70 no problem. Having trouble finding answers on the web and my other problem is being short on cash, long story. Hoping it's something simple.

Also, don't know if this matters but I have to keep the gas tank half full or more to keep it from stalling. Mechanic said it wasn't worth fixing as it's costly. But lately I am not sure I trust him. It's another long story as to how I ended up with this thing.
    Any advice is appreciated.

I had a 93 that did that going up hills, and starting from a stopped position it would just about die. Turns out it was the plugs, wires and a bad coil pack. As far as the gas thing have you replaced the fuel filter at all?

No, I haven't replaced anything except tires. I bought remote start for it because the heat works like crap. This hoopdee has all sorts of issues. Last night I traveled a good distance to a friends and back and had no problem except the headlights are old and kinda weak? Ya know when they start to yellow, or maybe I am just getting old.
Have you any idea what headlights might run at a junk yard? Wonder if its worth it.
Also, am I understanding the mechanic right when he says there's a sensor that floats around in the gas tank, which can mess up and make it stall and die around the quater to half tank mark?

You can get a nice pair of replacement bulbs at wal mart .. autozone. for like $30 and as for the gas tank having a sensor that floats it does. That's what tells you how much gas you have.. has nothing to do with it stalling unless your fuel pump is going bad. I would try replaceing the fuel filter shouldent be more then 20 dollars

You can try buying meguirs headlight restoration kit, they run about 20.00 and using an electric drill they clean up headlights really well. You can try that before hitting a JY, sometimes certain junkyards can really get ya on prices

So in the course of previewing the post I lost the whole thing. Awesome.
Anyways, thanks I looked it up and I never knew it existed. I have a drill gun so we shall see.

I haven't been able to get it out of the spot I put it in so I don't know whats up with it not going over 55 with the pedal to the floor, sometimes.

Really frustrated that I cleaned the spot out, the tires etc and it just wont get any traction.
Sorry rambling...hey, any recommendations on cleaning the cab, seats, roof lining etc? I am pretty sure the good ol boy who sold it to me and his buddies buried it in a mud hole and left it for 100 years. It smelled like...
