Hi:
Went to start my truck this morning & smelled burning. This "black box" (about 4" x 3" or so) was bolted to the passenger fender wall right near the starter solenoid but when I touched it this morning after I smelled burning it fell right off. There are 7 wires going into this black box but none coming out the other side. The wires appear to go inside the fender towards the front of the truck. There's about an inch or so melted spot, quit smoking when I shut the truck down. Truck was still running even as this was melting down. 1986 Ford Ranger 2.0 manual trans. I'm not the first owner,so no idea what's been done to the wiring. If you guys could tell me what this is & what it does that'll be a start, would really like to get this truck going again, the local Auto Electric store had no idea when I sent them a pic of this thing...Thanks!
Roberta
P.S. Hope it's okay to post this on a few different forums,it's driving me nuts!
