Ok so around mid Oct I decided I would change out my plugs. Went to a parts shop, picked up 6 champion DBL platinums and champion wires.

Waited about 2 hours and went at it, got #1 2 3 4 out and back in just fine, decided to try for # 6 because 4 was a bit hard to get out and I thought do the hardest to reach.

Needless to say after spraying with liquid wrench and waiting and being as careful as my not so car savvy butt can be I ended up breaking it off.

I then drove to my nearest mechanics 3 blocks away.

(by the way I am about to have my first child so I thought I would try to save some dough)

Mechanic takes a few days, calls me tells me he has got 6 out, put in a helicoil and is now having issues putting 5 back in. Asks if I can come over and see and approve of him to try to just crank it in or send the head to the machine shop.
Im not stupid, I took machine shop in class and understand how threads work so I tell him ok pull it and send it in.

Calls me in when its back together and the bill is 1954.20 and the engine sounds like POO! He now says it sounds as if a bearing in the lower end is gone. He then asks if he wants me to approve more exploration. I paid and told him I need to think about it.

Truck was never abused and was running fine I just thought I would give it some love. Now its at ford in for a 100.00 diagnosis.

How does a perfectly fine running truck end up with messed up bearings. I think its the head messing up since he pulled it and did something. It makes a loud but not heavy ticking noise, I have ****ty power and ford said its misfiring when I took it in. Official diag isnt done yet im just trying to figure out what it could be. HELP

    130,000 km on her.

and im stressing and wondering what to do now. Need the results, anyone have estimate for an engine swap? May be cheaper at this point.

  7. You could probably find the engine somewhere on craigslist for roughly a grand

Take the plugs out and throw motorcraft plugs in there. These trucks are weird, if it isnt a certain plug they run like crap. If here were a good mechanic he could have gotten the plug out. Also for about 1,000 more you could have had a new engine in there. I think he's jerkin you around, and I bet the plugs just made it run like crap

Ive been thinking about the plugs, ford said it could be the issue..
Just curious, if its not firing right could that make the lifters not work right? Im guessing lifters not functioning due to lack of spark would mess up fuel consumption and cause the not firing cyl to sound like crap. there was a lot of noise driving to the mech on 5 cyl so I will report whats up when I know.

Possibly the head didnt need to come off and be machined if its just the plugs, I will figure it out eventually,. thanks for the input.

  10. Hey, good luck man. Hope everything turns out right. I know what it feels like to get rooked. All we have in these garages is a bunch of greedy jerks anyways. Too bad there ain't more of the old time garages around, where they were in it for the business, not the money alone. Anyways, good luck again.
