I've got a 02 Ranger and my 4x4 didn't engage. I tried the switch, then the shift motor....last night I put installed the control module located behind the right kick panel in the cab. Bingo...got 4x4. They sell for around $140 at the dealer but a wrecking yard around $75. Good luck.
